Tell us about the highlights and rewards of being your own boss?

Gaining my first few customers was a huge stepping stone.  I remain true to my ethos of only taking on a limited number of clients to ensure I do not compromise on the service I provide. My customers are already seeing the value of the service. Now that the customers can see detailed, accurate and timely information relating to the financial performance of their business, they are able to make more accurate and effective decisions. We are looking to start tracking the impact we are having on customers, which could be as high as 7 figures by the end of year.

This has been one of the many highlights of starting my own business.

There is a sense of purpose that comes with making a difference to businesses, even in finance.  It is good to feel that a form of accountancy can actually help businesses, rather than be an unnecessary cost on the profit and loss account.

What has the impact of support from Nwes been?

I approached enterprise agency Nwes to discuss whether I would be eligible for a Start Up Loan.  Working with Business Advisor, Victoria Williamson, I was able to build a successful loan application, which I believe was essential to my early days as a business owner.

The loan was the difference between me being able to start my own business and not. Without it, I would not have been able to afford the start-up equipment and initial office costs. So without the loan there would be no business.

Having received ten hours of one-to-one support with Victoria, I now plan to take full advantage of a free marketing workshop, also offered by Nwes, and will continue to receive support under the Start & Grow programme.  This will enable me to recruit additional staff to grow my portfolio.
