Husband and wife duo Nathan and Sophie Pearson set up their digital agency to level the playing field against the big marketing agency names.
They enrolled on the Enabling Self-Employment programme which delivers self-employment support. Here they share their highlights and challenges in setting up their business:
What does your business offer?
Impulsive Digital offers full digital marketing support with web design and hosting. We also offer training and strategy support to help local businesses get off the ground.
How did the support from Nwes assist you?
NWES has been instrumental in our success. Without the support of Charlotte and Ian from the team, there is no doubt that we wouldn’t be enjoying the success that we are currently. Ian has been a fantastic coach, offering honest and well thought out advice on our plans. He has helped keep us down to earth, while also encouraging us to reach for the sky!
What has been the highlight of starting your own business?
The most enjoyable moment of starting my own business was when our first organic client signed up. It made all the sleepless nights, the financial concerns and incredible amount of effort worth it. In that moment, it felt like I was on the right track and that it could work out!
What is the one thing you wish you had known sooner on your journey?
That it’s OK to say no. No business is better than bad business, and you shouldn’t lower your price or standards to get the commitment. Being your own boss means having the freedom to walk away from something that doesn’t benefit you not just financially, but emotionally.
What are your plans over the coming year?
We have already established a physical presence in West Norfolk with our new town centre office, and we hope to be able to employ an apprentice within the next 12 months. Starting October 2022, we will be offering a monthly “drop-in” session for business owners to come along and discuss digital marketing, and how it can benefit their business. Totally free, and no obligation. We are also in the process of starting a podcast! We’re hoping to bring attention to neurodiversity within business and highlight the need for accessibility in all aspects of what we do.
