Event Description

The workshop is aimed at small and growing businesses, as well as those who may be employing staff for the very first time. The session will help businesses to become a ‘good employer’ and understand their obligations under employment law.

Within the session, we will look at the current and relevant issue of employment status; outlining the differences between ‘employee’, ‘worker’ and ‘self-employed’ and what the individual rights and employer obligations are under each type of these statuses. We’ll move on to explain how to manage recruitment practices such as advertising vacancies, conducting interviews and providing feedback to candidates. During the workshop we’ll explain the obligations that employers have when carrying out standard HR procedures such as onboarding new starters, managing probations, monitoring employee performance and dismissing staff. Importantly, the workshop will also look at risk areas in all of the above procedures and how to avoid discrimination and unfair dismissal claims.

At the end of the session there will be a quiz and time for questions.
