New Year, Bright Idea?
I had the pleasure of supporting the Nwes event New Year, Bright Idea on 16 January. Despite being a chilly, January evening in central Norwich, over 25 people turned out to discover how they could turn their business dream into reality.
Hosted and introduced by Nwes Business Advisors, Ian Bird and Paul Walmsley, the event aimed to reach out to people who have an idea, or a desire to become their own boss, but who need some support in knowing where to begin. Offering gentle introductions to key pieces of information, Ian and Paul guided the audience through some early considerations when thinking about starting up a business.
It was a privilege to listen to guest speaker, Google expert, and Nwes client, Paul Brittain, who shared his knowledge on Google streetview, maps and the important first impressions these can create for your business. He offered some interesting insights about how to increase your Google presence, and introduced new Google apps ‘Allo’ and ‘Duo’, which can be useful tools for entrepreneurs.
The event was also supported by Nwes clients, Tofurei, and Lasagnaria, who both provided samples of their food for guests. Their superb offerings were good talking points for the networking session, which followed the presentations, and it was great to see vibrant discussions taking place and good connections being forged. The two businesses are shining examples of how business dreams can become reality, and they provided real inspiration for everybody who attended.
The brilliance of people’s business ideas never fails to surprise me. The passion that they have for pursuing their dream can be spurred on by life-changing events, such as overcoming an illness or redundancy, but is often driven by a simple desire to develop a hobby into a career, or to have more control, freedom and flexibility over their working hours.
I was able to chat with many of the attendees, all with different reasons for coming along and wanting to start-up in business, but with one thing in common; the self-belief that they could do it.
Whatever your reason for choosing to pursue your business idea, keep believing, remain confident, do your research, and be prepared to work hard.
Nwes is perfectly placed to support you throughout your start-up journey, and the rewards will make the hard work worthwhile.
