Norwich-based business CFolio Ltd helps businesses to operate paperless. From the planning of work to completing of compliance documents through to extracting the data to produce reports, they tailor application software to fit the client and their needs. Employing two people, CFolio Ltd launched in September 2016.
We spoke to CFolio co-founder, Lee Chapman about their business start-up.
What was your motivation for starting your own business?
I am a serial entrepreneur and know a good idea when I see one. It was our experience in my last business that led us to start CFolio as we had been looking for a solution to enable us to complete all of our compliance and procedural paperwork digitally but were met with a very confusing market place where costs were hidden and extra features were always just that! We finally found a new product and loved it.
What makes your business unique?
I approach the developer of the software who was too busy with their other business to get it to market. One year on we are now the UK’s only licensed VAR (value added reseller). I believe the fact that we are experienced in business means we can really understand the pain points which our software can remove, rather than being a software developer who is able to design but having no understanding of business.
What have been the most helpful experiences and knowledge that you have gained from working with Nwes?
Business Advisor, Lou Cessford really got the product we were offering and was immediately able to discuss market potential. Lou is a great sounding board, which is vital for any business to succeed.
With the support of Nwes, we have been able to strengthen the foundation of our company and develop a really professional image. We are also looking to further our knowledge and skillset through the range of seminars and tools that Nwes offer. We were also eligible for a Start Up Loan and Nwes guided us through this process.
Do you have any tips or advice for others starting up their own business?
Really plan your strategy and test the market. Don’t be afraid of the competition as this is a sign that there is a market in the first place. Most of all do the best job you can every time and if something goes wrong ensure you drop everything to make it right.
