Roger Mason, of NDimension (Science and Engineering) Ltd is just one of the many entrepreneurs who saw the free business support project delivered by Nwes and funded by South Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire District Councils as an opportunity to build on his knowledge. As a result, he has been able to take his business to the next level.
“New developments result directly from attending these courses with other start-ups and individuals. This would not have been possible without some of the new skills that I gained from the business support programme.”
Following many years conducting research in both academia and industry, Roger from Sawston decided to take the plunge and form his own company. NDimension is based around the bespoke design and fabrication of advanced devices and instrumentation for the biomedical research, biotech and pharmaceutical industries, with the ambition of also breaking into clinical applications.
There’s now no stopping Roger as he pushes his business forward. “One major highlight of the workshops for me as the owner of a new start-up, was the final realisation that I needed to spend more time ‘working on-the-business’ than actually ‘working in-the-business’ in order to maximise my chances of success.”
“The major selling points were that the business support workshops were free, and that they were local.” Roger explains. “I very quickly realised that they also represented a unique opportunity to rapidly fill some of the gaps in my business knowledge.”
Roger attended workshops in digital marketing, business planning and planning for growth, which he says has supported him to maximise his use of social media, understand market research and choose the right time and reason to aim for growth. Funded by South Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire District Councils the programme has already supported 60 local businesses with more events running up until early October 2016.
