‘I Do’ Networking – the power of the many
On 23 May, Nwes hosted a new energetic and interactive networking event at Norwich’s Rouen House.
Aimed at supporting those supplying services to the wedding industry ‘I Do’ Networking attracted an excellent mix of start-up and existing businesses from across Norfolk and Suffolk. Their expertise included entertainment, catering, clothing, accessories and beauty.
Group discussion quickly established that although individually the attendees were perhaps only engaging with a modest number of clients, collectively they were in discussion with well over a 100.
Guest speaker, Richard Voisey from Nwes, took the attendees through some basic tips for networking, which included:
- Preparation, preparation, preparation…
- A warm handshake breaks the ice
- Be an active participant and listen with interest
- Use relevant questions to gain information
- Do remember to swap business cards
- And most importantly make sure you follow up
Richard also talked about building your confidence with networking and how daunting it can be for even the most senior people when faced with a room full of strangers, before moving onto some practical sessions where attendees could put the theory into practice.
By the end of the evening, utopia had been achieved. Business cards had been exchanged and good conversations had taken place. Most importantly, the next step in building the relationships had been engineered.
The attendees left their email addresses and one agreed to circulate the details to the group and arrange the next session for the collective.
It reinforced to me the ‘power of the many’ and how important relationships are in all industries.
