This is the season of awards and Nwes clients are again achieving recognition for their businesses. We are pleased to report on the successes of the following businesses:
Chef Dan’s Cakes
Congratulations to Daniel Addy, a 36 year old baker from Norfolk, a crowned champion at the National Cupcake Championship. His chocolate and amaretto cupcake took the trophy in the ‘With Alcohol’ category.
Daniel’s business, Chef Dan’s Cakes, is run from his home in Attleborough, and he fits this business in at the weekends around his weekday job of teaching aspiring chefs. As his business has grown he has built up a vast and unusual range of recipes (such as bacon beer and maple cupcakes), which have brought Chef Dan’s Cakes a huge following.
Daniel had left the awards ceremony prior to the results being announced and he was surprised to hear the news: “I was just sitting at home when they called me and told me I’d won. It’s amazing – such a surprise.”
Daniel has worked at City College, Centre Parcs, and Barnham Broom Hotel, but 3 years ago found his passion in life as a pastry chef. Having taken up hie teaching role with Poultec Training Ltd, Daniel was able to fulfil his dream of making cupcakes at the weekend. “There’s a lot you can do with them and a lot of ways you can add in different flavours”, he says.
Fans of Chef Dan’s Cakes can place orders via Facebook, and the cakes themselves are becoming renowned for appearing at weddings around Norfolk.
The National Cupcake Championships have four categories – Classic, With Alcohol, Free from, and Themed.
Daniel came to Nwes in August last year and followed the Business Masterclass course under the Enterprise for Norfolk Scheme, through Breckland Council. His business advisor and mentor, Richard Voisey, explained that Daniel had come to Nwes having given up full-time employment with the sole aim of developing his own business. Richard gave help and support with his marketing strategy, particularly the business website and Facebook page. Together they worked on databases, and optimising the website. Upon hearing about the award Richard said “Daniel is a worthy winner. His business plan gave some indication as to his baking and artistic talents. The photos on his website are visual proof of his artistic talent, and this award is confirmation of his baking skills. Well done Daniel.”
Daphne Metland of Thrive Agency was a runner-up in the EDP Director of the Year award. The ceremony was earlier this month and resulted in a croissant and champagne celebration at Thrive Agency’s’ offices in Rouen House, Norwich. The Judges felt that Pier’s entry “placed them above others as an outstanding consultancy”.
