FSB Connect, a networking group for young entrepreneurs, was launched in Norfolk last month following a pilot scheme in Lincolnshire. The group, funded by the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) was set up in response to younger business people looking for a more supportive start-up environment, and the initiative is to be implemented country-wide. The FSB is recognising that younger entrepreneurs are vital to the region’s economy by providing £1200 funding for events.
Kieran Miles, chair of the FSB Young Members Group in Norfolk, said “Norfolk was leading the way in providing young people with a meet-up group which was less intimidating. We all remember that first work event where you feel awkward and everyone else is more experienced. The more we draw young people in, the better for all our businesses and futures. It’s really important they are included and not excluded.”
As a member of the network, you will be a young professional under 35yrs of age. You may not yet have started your business, or you may be in your early months of trading. Or you may be the next generation about to take over a family business. Whatever your position in the business world, the FSB Connect networking meetings offer insights into a variety of business topics, and the chance for informal ‘chat and chill’ time with like-minded young entrepreneurs.
Aroma Cafe, King Street in Norwich was the venue for the first meeting in March. The next, in mid-April, saw guest speaker Jamie Minors talking about his start-up journey into house sales, followed by informal discussions. Two people came away from the last meeting with job offers, and one with an apprenticeship offer.
“I’m very pleased with the way in which the group is developing.” said Kieran. “We already have a membership base of 50 members and look forward to that increasing yet more over the coming months.”
The next meeting is the ‘Morning Glory Breakfast Event’ on 12th May (8.00am) at Pandora’s Kitchen in London Street, Norwich. The topic being covered is ‘Growing Your Business’. If you would like to attend please email Kieran at firstname.lastname@example.org
