How did you feel when you gained your first client?

On the first day of starting my business, I was approached by a company to write 18 toolkits for Line Managers on how to deal with HR issues, such as a disciplinary procedures, performance management and right to work issues etc.  This truly made me feel very positive about the decision I had made to start up on my own.

Where is your business based?

I am currently based at home.  I made the decision two years ago to take on a virtual office through the Harlow Enterprise Hub.  This helps me to project a professional image through services such as having a registered business address and mail handling service.

In what ways has your business benefitted from an Nwes virtual office?

In addition to helping me to project a more professional image, I have also attended social media workshops.  I learned how to use Mailchimp on one, which has been particularly helpful as it has made my monthly newsletter look far more professional and cost effective to send out.  I am also impressed at the number of networking events currently being held at Harlow Enterprise Hub, which I am able to attend.

What are the highlights of running your own business?

It has been a hugely positive experience. There have been a number of highlights from having my first article published and acquiring by first local client. There is a real sense of achievement knowing it is your own business and you have grown it from nothing.

To others who are starting up in business I would say believe in yourself, connect with others and don’t be afraid to try new things to grow your business.  Always do your research – it is a rewarding journey and one you will learn a lot from along the way.
