Students attend a one or two day a week placement over the course of a term, or one or two academic years from Years 10-13. Nwes WoW ensures employers are prepared and have a plan of activities to make a beneficial placement for the student, and provide a wholesome learning experience within the world of work.
These are two to three day placements, including workshops looking at all aspects of the business set up and management, and on location work placements with a local employer to see how they operate. This is a great opportunity for school staff to familiarise themselves with different industry sectors pertinent to their teaching subject. Working with Nwes WoW, you can develop better Careers Education Information Advice and Guidance for your young people. Updating your knowledge of local industry will help you to better inform young people about the world of work from personal experience.
“Work Placements assist with our recruitment process and students are always bright and eager to learn what we have to teach them.” Jimmy Wright, Service Manager at Ben Burgess.
Jimmy now has 12 employees in the workshop, 8 of whom have progressed through Apprenticeships or Work Placements.
Offering Work Placements
Experiences of work are essential for young people to gain all-important transferable work skills required after full time education. Work Placements add content to CV’s and provide evidence for further education applications. They are also of huge benefit to the employers who offer them. Offering placements can:
- Help students to appreciate work
- Give insight into different industries and job roles
- Enhance your recruitment opportunities
- Provide personal and professional development opportunities for your employees
- Raise your company profile
- Help a young person realise their potential
Nwes WoW will guide you through the process of offering a young person a work experience placement, providing all the information you need before taking on a student. Should you offer a placement, we may arrange a meeting and tour of your premises to discuss Health & Safety in the workplace and requirements for young people at work.
