Redundancy Results in Handy Opportunity for Michael

Wednesday, 25 November 2009

Having been made redundant from his job as a builder and decorator in February this year, Michael Carver of Norwich has now turned things round to set up his very own handyman business.

With 11 years of D.I.Y experience and with a view to becoming his own boss and generating a decent income for his young family Michael Carver set about launching his business, A M Carver, earlier this year.

“Initially I was concerned about having a lack of customers but once people realized I had started my business and was available for work my diary started getting full”, comments Michael. Helping with things like painting, decorating, bathroom/kitchen fittings and guttering he has been able to turn his hand to many jobs around the house and workplace.

“I attended the Business Ideas workshop and the Best Start business programme and these gave me the confidence to start my own business”, says Michael.

NWES Business Advisor Jessica Collin comments: “Michael’s determination to make a success of his business and to not give up at the first hurdle is a testament to his success.“

“For me the highlight has been winning jobs and receiving a regular income”, comments Michael.

To others thinking of setting up their own business, Michael states “don’t hold back, give things a go.”
